Progress in Ultrafast Laser Modifications of Materials

Meeting Description:

This meeting focuses on physical and chemical phenomena associated with the profound interplay that can take place between electronic and nuclear motions in molecules, crystals, and molecular materials. Such strong “vibronic” coupling, associated with the well-known Jahn-Teller and pseudo-Jahn-Teller effects, influences a variety of molecular and solid state phenomena including spectroscopic signatures, photochemistry, ferroelectricity and multiferroicity, charge and energy transport, superconductivity, molecular magnetism and a number of other properties. The conference is designed as a multidisciplinary meeting of physicists, chemists, and material scientists with experimental, computational, or theoretical backgrounds in this field.

JT2020 is the latest in a series of meetings begun in 1976. Historically, these symposia have focused on the coupling between electronic and nuclear motion in molecules and solids under conditions of electronic degeneracy and pseudodegeneracy, where the Jahn-Teller and pseudo-Jahn-Teller effects are operative. More recently, the scope has been expanded to a broader range of phenomena that are not usually described in these terms, but are nonetheless related, such as electron-phonon and spin-phonon coupling. The meeting aims to bring together a group of people with broad interests in these general areas for stimulating discussion and to forge future collaborations.


The first workshop was held in Cargese, Corsica, April 15-19, 2013, and the second workshop was held in Neuchatel, Switzerland, June 13-17, 2016. Each workshop had strong participation, featuring 35-40 talks in a 30 minute presentation format that invited more extensive discussion than is achieved in a standard conference format. This will be the first time that the workshop comes to the U.S.

The 2018 Telluride meeting includes breakfast and lunch on each day of the meeting and 4 lunches.

Most TSRC meetings are very small, typically only about 25 people. If you have registered for a meeting you were not invited to, you may be subject to a $100 fee.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation Policy: Once a credit card has been charged, cancelled registrations will be subject to a cancellation fee. We will process registration fees beginning on January 15th, 2022. If a payment of registration fees has been processed, a $25 cancellation fee will be retained from a registration refund. Lodging fee payments will be processed 60 days prior to arrival, and a $100 cancellation fee will apply if cancellations occur after a lodging fee payment is completed. TSRC can only guarantee a refund for the remaining lodging fees if requested prior to the cancellation deadline that is specific to each lodging provider. TSRC always recommends that participants purchase travel insurance to protect against unforeseen, last-minute travel plan changes.
